Have you ever noticed those little gaps in between your child’s front teeth? These spaces are actually a GOOD thing!. Here’s why:

  1. Room for Growth: As your child grows and starts to lose teeth, their adult teeth will grow in much larger. The spacing allows ample room for these larger teeth to come in straight and properly align.
  2. Easier Cleaning: With spacing, it’s easier for children to brush in between their teeth, reducing the risk of cavities. Food and plaque is less likely to get stuck between teeth that are spaced
  3. Airway success: Spacing in between teeth indicates a wide palatal arch. The base of the nasal passage is the roof of the mouth, so more space means your child can breath easy!

NO GAPS? No problem! If you child does not have spacing, it’s not detrimental! Your child may be more susceptible to getting cavities or have a higher chance of mouth breathing. Get your child to the dentist at around age 1 years old so they can evaluate their oral structures and give you better advice on brushing, flossing and airway.

Remember, every child is different and dental development varies! If you have concerns, it is always best to consult your paediatric dentist.
