BLACK STAINS BABY TEETH CHROMOGENIC STAINING

Staining can come in shapes and sizes. Dr. Hall often gets asked about these stains from concerned parents. Luckily, this is not a cavity stain but rather chromogenic staining or iron staining.

Chromogenic staining is produced as a byproduct of certain good bacteria that we have in our mouth.

Iron stains can be caused by an iron supplement that may be prescribed to your child due to anaemia.

The good news is that these are external stains and can be removed by your dentist by polishing.

Some stains, however can be due to cavities or turn into a cavity over time so always check with your dentist to make sure your child’s teeth are healthy!
